#2 Sweet Doce Brazil - Yuma, AZ

We're Interviewing: Regiane, Owner

About the Business!

I’m a mother of twins (a boy and a girl), and every year I was organizing their birthday parties. I loved making it a big event, but whenever I ordered a cake, it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. So I decided to learn how to bake cakes myself, haha. I took some cake decorating classes and pursued a culinary associate’s degree. While that was happening, I was baking cakes for friends and family. I received great feedback, which led me to establishing Sweet Doce Brazil in 2015.

What are your most favorite cake and icing flavors?

Ooh… that’s a hard question. My favorite flavors of cake usually include fruit, like strawberry, raspberry, and lemon curd. As for the customers, chocolate and vanilla are popular because they’re classics. I also get orders for tres leches fairly often.

How big of cakes can you create?

My biggest cakes were five tiers tall, while my smallest cake was actually only 4 inches.

Do you deliver?

We usually deliver in the 20 mile range for the Yuma county, but we’ve gone as far as 100 miles for wedding orders.

Do you offer anything besides wedding cakes?

Besides wedding cakes, we have a variety of custom cakes, including 3D cakes. We also have a vast selection of both American and Brazilian desserts, though the Brazilian treats are more popular. To name a few, we have cupcakes, cakepops, chocolate covered strawberries, macarons, cheesecakes, tiramisu, along with brazilian brigadeiros and pao de mel.

What can you tell me about getting started?

We offer cake tastings 3 times a year, but you can come to the cafe to see our daily selection. Another option is the online store for a more customizable ordering experience.

#3 Ambrosia's Cakes - Tucson, AZ

We're Interviewing: Annie, Owner & Operator

About the Business!

I started baking for my sister's wedding back in 2012 and then opened a gourmet cupcake business. After meeting a few local wedding folks, I found the fabulous baker of Ambrosia of Tucson and became her apprentice. Jaynie taught me everything I know about wedding cakes and I took over Ambrosia near the end of 2015. Not too long after in spring of 2016, two other bakeries in town needed to close their doors, so I helped them with their remaining clients and officially jumped into the wedding industry with both feet. It's been an incredible last five years, really fast-paced, but I get to make delicious and beautiful food for people. What a dream job!

What are your most favorite cake and icing flavors?

Most clients take one bite of our vanilla almond cake with fresh raspberry preserves and are completely sold. They often choose the strawberry champagne cake with fresh strawberry preserves to go along with it. My favorite is the rum cake, as it's not super sweet, it has incredible flavor, and is nice and moist.

How big of cakes can you create?

I'll make large tiered cakes to feed up to 250 servings and smaller cakes that feed 8-10.

Do you deliver?

Yes! We deliver most wedding cake orders and larger events all over Tucson and the surrounding areas: Tubac, Casa Grande, etc. We've been known to take a few cakes up to Phoenix as well.

Do you offer anything besides wedding cakes?

I offer full dessert tables as well as wedding cakes. Tables can include a number of treats such as cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, rice krispy treats, donuts, brownies, chocolate dipped strawberries, etc.

What can you tell me about getting started?

I like to get as much information from you first via email, before we book a consultation and a tasting box pick-up. Tell me all about you, your big day, your style, colors, etc. Send me photos and all of the important contact info and timing that you have available.
