In this post, we are interviewing Sarah Hipp, the owner of Hippbakes! If you're a bride getting married in Hawaii, we know you will find this feature to be helpful!
Let the Interview Begin!
Sarah, tell us about yourself!
Hi, I’m Sarah! Baker, adventure enthusiast, and owner of Hippbakes living (and baking) it up in Kailua, Oʻahu. I’m the one-woman show behind the biz who runs it all. When I’m not creating in the kitchen you can find me hiking, paddling, swimming, or relaxing in a hammock.
I’ve nurtured a passion for baking for as long as I can remember. Growing up, baking was a family affair and I love how it brought everyone together. Fast forward to 2020 and I found myself taking the leap to make my dream of my own baking business a reality. Thankfully I’ve honed my skills since those early days and am so proud to offer cakes, cupcakes, and cakesicles for couples tying the knot. Whether you’re looking for a cake or dessert spread for your wedding or just looking to satisfy your own sweet tooth, let me bake some love and aloha into something spectacular for you. The style of cake I bake is a butter cake – dense, plenty of moisture, and the perfect balance of sweetness.
What are your favorite cake and icing flavors? Is there a favorite among clients?
I offer a range of flavors and fillings to satisfy diverse palettes and preferences, but the favorite among clients (and me!) is my vanilla sponge with lilikoi butter (passionfruit curd) filling, all wrapped in vanilla buttercream. A close second is my haupia cake – coconut sponge, coconut custard filling, and coconut buttercream. Everything is made from scratch by yours truly!
How big (or small) of cakes can you create?
I make single-tier and two-tier cakes to fit smaller weddings (>75) and elopements. The smallest is my mini - 4”x3 layers, perfect for elopements and weddings under 5 people. This size has been extremely popular during the pandemic with the restrictions on large gatherings. I have varying sizes in between, but my largest two-tier cake serves up to 40 people. I also offer cupcakes and cakesicles for those couples who may want a smaller cake but would like a dessert bar to give their guests some options.
Do you deliver? If yes, what are your service areas?
I deliver island wide on Oʻahu. Pick up is always an option, but I prefer to deliver my wedding cakes so that I can ensure they get to the venue and set up in perfect condition. It’s one less thing for the couple to stress about on their big day.
Do you offer anything besides wedding cakes?
We do! We offer celebration cakes for any and all occasions including birthdays, anniversaries, and baby or bridal showers. Or just because you want to eat cake, which is the best reason of all.
Can you show us some photos of past cakes?
These cakes are absolutely STUNNING! We are so in love and cannot wait to see more cakes made by Hippbakes as time goes on! Thank you so much to Sarah for being part of the Blissful Blue Jays blog! -Stephanie, Blissful Blue Jays
