About the Business!

Our business started as a fundraiser where we raised over $14k using our Grandmother's (Emily) hundred-year-old pound cake recipe to send one of my sons to 7 countries in Europe for 20 days and the other son to China for 17 days.


What are your most favorite cake and icing flavors?

Our most popular non-specialty cake is the Emily's Original which started the business. The most popular specialty cake is the Skillet Caramel which is the old fashioned caramel made in a cast iron skillet that is frosted on top of the Original cake.


How big of cakes can you create?

The smallest cake we create is our Pound Pops. We roll my hand and make them specialized for our customers in a variety of colors. The largest cake we make is our large wedding cake with is 6 cakes on 3 tiers. Our cakes not only look good, but taste spectacular! They represent sheer elegance and class. The cakes are all butter, old fashioned in taste, adorned with fresh berries and cream cheese butter cream. They are truly the talk of the town.


Do you deliver?

Yes we deliver locally within a 20 mile radius; our wedding cakes we deliver and set up within a 2-4 hour radius.


Do you offer anything besides wedding cakes?

Yes, we offer Pound Pops, Bites, Slices, Snack Sizes, Mini Loafs, Half Loaf, Rounds and Loaf in a variety of flavors.



What can you tell me about getting started?

We start by offering taste sampling, showing photos and offer detailed conversations to ensure we provide as much information to our brides/their families to ensure they get exactly what they dreamed their cake would be.

About the Business!

I am currently a one woman show, and I operate out of my home in downtown Northport! I have been baking my entire life, but in the last two and a half years, have decided to turn this passion into a business, and Sweetthang’s was born!


This has been the most incredible journey so far, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this business!


What are your most favorite cake and icing flavors?

My absolute favorite cake is classic Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream. A close second is the delicacy that is Coconut Cake! If I had to narrow it down, I would have to say that my most popular flavors are Vanilla, Red Velvet, and Strawberry!


How big of cakes can you create?

The smallest cake I offer is a 4” cake, and the largest is a 14” cake!


Do you deliver?

Yes, I have delivered as far as north Huntsville! Delivery is complimentary within 20 miles of Tuscaloosa, outside of that incurs a nominal fee.


Do you offer anything besides wedding cakes?

Absolutely! From baby showers, to 100th birthdays, and everywhere in between, I do them all!

What can you tell me about getting started?

I would love to sit down and talk with you about your special day! I offer tastings, and this is where we both brainstorm and plan your dream cake! We look at inspiration photos together, get a feel for your style and vision for your wedding day, draw up designs, and the best part is… you get to eat delicious cupcakes! Tastings are $25.

About the Business!

CakEffect is the little cake shop with a grand effect. CakEffect specializes in sculpted two-dimensional and three-dimensional cakes. With a background in visual arts, canvas art is transformed to cake. CakEffect provides beautiful, delicious cakes to many satisfied customers each year. Our deliciously moist, artistic, and elegantly designed cakes will be remembered by you, your family and friends as a wonderful touch to your wedding. CakEffect is also a volunteer "Sugar Angel" for Icing Smiles, a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child.


The owner of CakEffect, Komeh, graduated from Alabama A&M university with a BA in Commercial and Advertising Art, and also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She later accomplished a major goal receiving her Juris Doctorate in 2004. Komeh’s true passion has always been art, and she’s been featured in several art exhibits for her artistic imagination and unmatched creativity.


Baking has always been in her blood, and CakEffect is the perfect outlet for Komeh giving her the ability to artistically express herself through baking the most delectable treats you ever want to taste. Komeh credits her mother, Naomi Truman, for her baking skills as she is solely responsible for her learning to bake. Not only was Naomi Komeh’s biggest fan, she was also the biggest critic making sure treats tasted as good as they looked. With the guidance and encouragement of her mother, the first CakEffect storefront opened in 2011 in Homewood.


In 2019 CakEffect relocated to The Village at Brock’s Gap in Hoover, AL and will be opening a new location in Tuscaloosa, Al in 2020. CakEffect’s customers range from all over the country including Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, Marcel Dareus and Quincy Williams of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Quinen Williams of the New York Jets, and Sir Charles Jones.


Additionally, Komeh has been featured locally on Absolutely Alabama and nationally on the Food Network’s hit show, Bakers vs. Fakers. CakEffect also won Alabama Retailer of the Year in 2017.



What are your most favorite cake and icing flavors?

Our most popular cake flavors are Strawberry and Wedding Cake.


How big of cakes can you create?

Our cake sizes start at 6" and go up from there. Sizing is based on the design created. Specialty cakes usually start larger due to carving needs.


Do you deliver?

Yes, Our Hoover location delivers within the Hoover and Birmingham area. The Tuscaloosa location delivers in Tuscaloosa and Northport.


Do you offer anything besides wedding cakes?

Yes, we offer cupcakes, cake bowls (Hoover only), cinnamon rolls and warm cookies daily.
