#1 Creative Cuisine Catering - Columbus, OH

We're Interviewing: Jayne, Event Consultant

Desserts on Table

About the Business!

Creative Cuisine is a full service catering company with over forty years of experience in the events industry.

We are 51% female owned, and work hard daily as a team to not only produce delicious food, but guide our clients in the planning process. This starts from day one, in the creation of our event proposals. We do not offer set packages that force our clients into a mold or “tier” of service – instead we have a conversation to better understand their needs, vision, and budget, and build a fully customized proposal based off of that. We understand that no two events are the same, and we work with that mentality always, up until day-of execution.

What Catering Services Do You Offer?

We offer plated dinners, buffets, family style, strolling stations, hors d’Oeuvre receptions, brunch, and more.

What Areas do You Cater to?

We cater mainly in and around central Ohio – but our team can create a mobile kitchen most anywhere. Additional staffing and travel fees apply for events beyond central Ohio.

What Types of Foods Do You Offer?

With over 40 years of custom events under our belts, we have a repertoire of thousands of recipes to fit your style of cuisine. This has always really impressed me about our company – we can cater a delicious BBQ lunch buffet in the afternoon, then execute an Asian-inspired family style dinner that evening, complete with fried rice, stir fry, and spring rolls.

Jayne, can you show us some photos?

What are some Popular Wedding Catering Options you see with your Clients?

I always recommend our boneless braised short ribs! Fork tender, and topped with a tomato-chianti sauce, they’re the epitome of comfort food, plus they work great for both buffets and plated meals. You can’t go wrong pairing these with our chive and cream cheese mashed potatoes and our savory green beans.

Our campanelle with roasted butternut squash is another delicious option – for both vegetarians and meat-eaters! Pasta tossed with roasted butternut squash, brown butter, fresh sage, lemon zest, parmesan and dried cranberries – the perfect fall meal.

How Many Guests Can You Cater? Is There a Minimum?

We have catered intimate dinners for 10, all the way to grand ceremonies of 1,000. Delivery orders just require a $100 minimum.

Where Do You Make the Food?

All food is made onsite at our commissary, in the same building as our offices. Fun fact: when Creative first opened, we took up just a small section of the industrial park here on Busch Blvd. As the company grew, so did our space! Year after year, we’d increase our blueprint to accommodate the demand for larger kitchens, offices, a bake shop, a floral and décor department, and equipment warehouse.

Can You Accept Any Special Requests?

Our kitchen team makes every attempt to identify ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction to guests with those allergies. This includes gluten free, children’s meals, vegan, vegetarian and more. It’s important to note that all food is produced in the same kitchen, which regularly handles nuts, shellfish, wheat, and raw eggs.

Where Can I Check Out Sample Menus?

We have a corporate menu, wedding menu, and our current Holiday Menu available right on our website!

What makes you unique?

What makes us unique is our flexibility. We are large enough to execute the grandest of weddings and galas, while also small enough to keep an eye on the smallest of details. We utilize a fantastic web-based software to keep everyone in the loop, information organized and on track, and clients well informed.

What Can I Expect at a Consultation/Tasting?

Our tastings are all one-on-one, meaning you will be the only couple there. Estimate about 1-1.5 hours, and plan to taste some delicious food. After tasting the menu items that you’ve selected, you’ll sit down with your event consultant to discuss your likes, dislikes, and questions.

#2 Hippie and the Farmer - Urbana, OH

We're Interviewing: Pamela, Owner

Wedding Catering Salad and Vegetables

About the Business!

Welcome to Hippie and the Farmer! Where catering takes on a whole new adventure in food! We don’t just make your food, but we also produce it, and if we are not producing it, one of our local vendors is producing it for us. We bring the elevated farm to table experience to each of our events and weddings. We specialize in curating each event, just for that specific client. Just as each client is unique, we want their food experience to be as unique as they are.

What kinds of food do you offer?

Based in Urbana, Ohio, we have been catering for the past 6 years. We specialize in organic, fresh, farm to table, rustic gourmet catering. Before becoming the combined efforts of Hippie and the Farmer, we both operated our own local food businesses, getting our starts at area farmers’ markets. The Hippie, Pamela Bowshier, also runs her bread baking business, Cosmic Charlie Breads, while the Farmer, Mark Runyan, heads his family business of fourth generation pork producers, Oakview Farm Meats. We operate at the site of the Farmer’s family farm, at Oakview, out of our fully licensed, fully insured commercial kitchen, bringing our clients the most unique, fresh, flavorful, and beautiful farm to table experience at their wedding or event. Oakview Farm Meats also has a retail shop, on premises, offering their locally produced pork, neighboring farms’ beef, and chicken, along with a large assortment of locally produced products.

Also, on site we are managers of the online farmers’ market, Champaign Locally Grown, housing 40 vendors, all with locally produced products, all on the year round market that operates out of the beautiful Hippie and the Farmer Greenhouse, each Thursday evening.

What makes you unique?

We bring our clients a unique experience on their special day. We have no pre-set menu or pre-priced packages because each event is curated to that specific client’s vision, dietary needs, and preferences. We cater to the client with an elevated palate, and who has an eye for food as an art form. We specialize in the freshest of ingredients, and build elaborate, eye pleasing displays of food. We believe that food should be an adventure, bringing people together. We feel that the best food, is creative, artfully put together, with the simplest of ingredients, combined for the maximum amount of flavor. We strive to bring delicious food to any event, bringing a feast for the eyes, palate, and soul. We believe that food is the common denominator that nourishes, shows love, and leaves the crowd lingering, after treating their senses to all that we bring to the table.

No event is ever duplicated, and our menus feature the finest quality of foods, from the Hippie’s bread business, the Farmer’s local meat production, our organic gardens, and the availability of local products from the local online farmers’ market, as well as the neighboring farms. We stress seasonal eating, so that whenever your event takes place, you are getting food, at the peak of flavor.

We are well known, in the community, for our work on the local food movement, our management of area farmers’ markets, and our management of the online market. We have built a reputation on food that is pleasing to the eye, delicious to taste, and elevated in artistic presentation. We are not corporate type caterers, and our clients mirror our food philosophies. We believe that food must first speak to you, visually, and we build on color, texture, and taste. Rustic, elegant, with a flavor explosion are terms that our clients use when describing us.

Pamela, can you show us some photos?

What areas do you service?

We cover the central Ohio area, offering fine dining, buffet style, table service, or anything the client desires. We love offering appetizer stations, full dinner service, and desserts if desired. We love the collaboration between caterer and client, to bring each event to life, in its own unique way.

What are some popular options among clients?

Some of our most popular catered offerings are our elaborate appetizer stations, our Italian flair featuring our Italian Beef Braciole, Champagne Chicken, Salmon, Slow Roasted Ham, Prime Rib, and colorful vegetarian offerings, over the top salad and bread stations, and our artisan pizzas.

How many guests can you serve?

We love all events, and have catered up to 220 guests, along with the new, popular micro events. We pride ourselves on being hands on, with the personalized treatment that we can offer our clients. We believe in taking only a few events, a month, to insure that each client gets our undivided attention.

Where is the food prepared?

All food is made in our beautiful, on site commercial kitchen, on the farm, where we also offer our own small event venue, on premises. We offer a beautiful dining room for small dinner parties, and we also use it as a meeting room, when consulting with clients. We have beautiful gardens to dine in, or the lovely, vintage green house that is often rented out for smaller events. In 2021, there will be an added event area, upstairs in one of the barns, to offer another area for rental. In the summer season, we also host Pizza Farm Friday events. It is reservation, only, with limited seating, and outdoor entertainment. Guests are permitted to bring their own beer or wine, and can enjoy while we deliver their artisan pizza selections to their tables, using meats from the Farmer’s Oakview Farm Meats, organic produce from the Hippie and the Farmer gardens, with the pizza crusts from the Hippie’s Cosmic Charlie Bread. The guests dine at sunset, as the twinkling lights come on, and they enjoy an evening out of town, in the country, dining, and listening to music.

We also offer, on a weekly basis, our farm to table frozen dinners, frozen pizzas, and soups, at the online farmers’ market, allowing customers the ability to dine on our food, bringing their family dining experiences to life, on any given week night!

Can you accommodate any special requests?

We are also well known for our ability to work with dietary needs, and food requests. We have offered gluten free, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian, children menu variations.

What's the next step?

You can view our events, pictures, and catering information on our Facebook page, as well as our Instagram page. We feel that we have never desired a website because our menu selection is never the same, and we like the free flow of our Facebook and Instagram to allow our photos to speak for themselves. We are always available to chat, schedule a meeting, and curate that special menu with each potential client. We typically do not offer tastings, but instead, go on referrals, recommendations, and word of mouth.

What is my relationship to the featured wedding vendors? I am always transparent with my audience. These vendors were hand selected by me to feature in this post. They were each charged a small fee to cover my time in creating their feature as this provides a means for me to earn an income. I reached out to them and offered the opportunity, they did not seek me out looking to advertise. I only feature venues and vendors I truly think are great!
